About Us

Ken Moore

Ken is a lifelong resident of Bessemer.  After graduating from Bessemer High School, he went on to Auburn University where he played football and earned a bachelor’s degree.  He then went on to Cumberland School of Law for his juris doctorate.  After graduation he went on to work for the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office, Governor Brewer and Senator Sparkman.  He has been in private practice in Bessemer since 1988.  Well known as an advocate for the underdog Ken has defended every type of criminal case and earned the respect of clients who come back to him for all of their legal needs.  His relationships with the bench and the bar set him apart from the pack.  He is a lawyer’s lawyer with a heart of gold and a passion for anyone who has been mistreated by the system.  He has successfully defended those charged with everything from a simple drug possession case to trafficking and capital murder.  In addition to his law practice, Ken is the municipal Judge in Hueytown and Pleasant Grove, the City Prosecutor in Adamsville and the chairman of the Jefferson County Personnel Board.  Ken has also served as the Bar Commissioner for the Bessemer Cut-Off Division of Jefferson County and is starting his tenth year in that position.

Leslie Schiffman Moore

Leslie is a lifelong Jefferson County resident with strong family connections throughout the county.  Hardworking all of her life, she paid her own way through college and law school with the help of scholarships.  She has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from UAB and her law degree from the University of Alabama.  Leslie has practiced for 20 years and has handled all types of criminal cases from the prosecution side and from the defense.  In the Bessemer DA’s office she worked her way up to Chief Assistant District Attorney and tried more cases in one year than any other attorney in the history of the Bessemer DA’s office.  Because of her expertise in cases where women and children were victims she was called on by the Attorney General to prosecute cases all over the State.  In 2017 Leslie decided to go into private practice and has since used her expertise to ensure that those charged with a crime are provided with a solid defense.  Her expertise in the protocol of child abuse and domestic violence cases and how they are handled has helped her to create a thriving criminal defense practice protecting the rights of those accused.Qualified by the State to sit lead as an attorney in Capital Murder cases Leslie has tried these most difficult cases from both the prosecution and the defense perspective.  Additionally, she is a certified Mitigation Expert who fights against the death penalty all over the State.  Leslie has completed hundreds of hours of CLE’s in criminal law, specifically in the areas of child abuse, domestic violence, murder investigations, and the defense against capital punishment including an invitation to participate in The University of Colorado’s Colorado Method of Voir Dire on scholarship.  In addition to attending these courses she has also taught classes on these subjects to other lawyers, medical providers, social workers and educators.Active in the community Leslie is a graduate of Leadership Hoover and currently sits on the Board of Directors at Aldridge Gardens.  She has previously served on the Board of Directors at the Clay House Child Advocacy Center and the Junior Patron Board of the Birmingham Museum of Art.  Leslie is active in her Episcopal Church and is Chair Person of the Finance Committee, President of the Daughters of The King chapter and was a Delegate charged with helping to elect the first female Bishop of Alabama.
